Trophies for Troubled Youth In Our Community
Sunday, July 10th, 2011Doing community service is a great way to reach out to people that have far less than anyone has. For the past five years, my group and I have been reaching out to certain groups of troubled kids that have been involved with the wrong crowd. As a way to develop their skills and personalities, I decided that the best way to do that was to get them into sports. Once they got enthused with playing basketball and football, the group decided to make their own trophies for everybody who participated. We didn’t encourage competition as we wanted everybody to feel equally appreciated for all their hard work. Even the simplest trophy of participation made the kids feel like they were on top of the world. To this day, we make trophies by dozens and we hand them out like free candy to the kids in our community who play sports.
